Nokshikatha
An ancient Bengali art and tradition form that dates back centuries exists in Bangladesh: the embroidered quilt known as a pakshi katha. Although kathaks are created all throughout Bangladesh, the regions of Mymensingh, Rajshahi, Faridpur, and Jessore are the most well-known for producing them. The term “Nakshi katha” originated from the Bengali word “Naksha”, meaning creative patterns, and it was inspired by the vibrant patterns and motifs that are embroidered. In the past, katha was made for family consumption. Since the Nakshi katha was revived, they are being made on a commercial basis. The primary aim of this project is to provide a digital platform for the preservation and international marketing of "Nakshi katha" and to support rural women in selling their handcrafted nokhsi products at a fair price.
